How to get A* in IGCSE Chemistry :

Your child will be taught the 3 things that we believe are the most important in order to achieve A*,

• Understanding ALL the different types of questions that often repeats in exams and giving the answers with the correct keyword;

• Having a clear formula sheet where they can refer to all the Important Notes/Formula in the syllabus;

• Have A LOT & A LOT of practice with Past Year Papers where we will discuss different types of mistakes that students make in exams and answer all the questions that students have with those wrong answers, and learn the correct way to answer them.

Understand ALL the chapters in Chemistry using Simplified Notes :

Teacher Yoong always tries to link different concepts and chapters in Chemistry to real-life scenarios or examples to help students understand better. On top of that, as students will be copying notes, they will be encouraged to add on whatever extra information that can help them understand it better personally. For example, Teacher Yoong often describes positive ions as boys and negative ions and girls, while an ionic reaction is a marriage between the boy and girl. In Teacher Yoong's classes, students are always taught to fully grasp the main rule/formula that connects all the different chapters together.

Excel in Exam Preparation :

Your child will be clearly taught and reminded of all the preparation needed to obtain A* in their exam. The general process will be learning all the chapters and copying the simplified notes. Secondly, we'll focus on learning the format on how to answer exam questions by doing past years in class together. Thirdly, Teacher Yoong will discuss with students every single wrong question, (from the past years that they did themselves) and make sure they understand how to ace those questions the next time. Lastly, students will need to practice completing the exams in the fixed time and feedback to Teacher Yoong in the next class on how to improve their marks. We will repeat this step until the student is able to achieve A* consistently with past year papers.

Ace the Lab-Related Paper 6 Questions (Alternative to Practical) :

Many students (whether they are core or extended) who at first hated paper 6 and were unable to understand it; have found that Paper 6 is actually very simple and is the most straightforward paper after learning the format to answer (specifically after copying the notes/SOP that is specially for Paper 6). Paper 6 is all about using a fixed format to answer the questions.

Fast & Effective Learning, Even from Home :

Students will be asked to screenshot / take a photo of their mistakes when doing past years and Teacher Yoong will look through their wrong answers and analyze with the student which parts of their answer are right and which parts are wrong. Often times, students are always just 1 or 2 keywords away from getting the marks. Also, whenever possible, we will share our mistakes as a class so that students can learn from each other mistakes and speed up their improvement.
